Off-Road Wheel Durability: What Actually Matters

Rock crawling and trail driving expose wheels to impacts a street wheel will never see. Here's what actually determines whether a wheel holds up off-road.

Impact Resistance Over Raw Hardness

A wheel that's too hard can crack on impact. Forged aluminum has the flex to absorb a hit and deform slightly rather than shatter — which matters a lot more on the trail than in a showroom.

Bead Retention

At low tire pressures on the trail, keeping the tire bead seated on the wheel matters as much as the wheel material itself. Bead design and lip strength both play a role here.

Corrosion Resistance

Mud, water crossings, and trail debris are hard on finishes. A properly coated forged wheel resists corrosion far longer than a cheap painted cast wheel.

Built for the Trail, Not Just the Look

Plenty of off-road-styled wheels are built for looks first. Ours are built to actually hold up — durability first, styling second.
